You Never Know

The internet is a funny place.

Today I was reminded of the idea that you never know what will resonate with people. Way back in 2017 I was teaching a class at the University of North Texas’s College of Visual Art and Design called Photography and the Web. It was a class for photo students and we made websites and videos in the class. At some point I got into this idea of making and abstract sound track, and then create the visuals for it. To demonstrate this idea, I made some clips and posted them on Fressound.

That link will take you to the Goat Clap.

I received an email earlier today notifying me of the top comment, which took me by surprise a bit because I never expect comments like that.

This was the sound I created that I liked better, because it is a bit more layered.

This seemed to hit with a few people too. I can appreciate sound, and I am the farthest thing from a sound designer.

My interest in audio comes from making SoundSlides for the newspaper in the earlier part of the century. I also have been a fan of live recordings of the Grateful Dead.

The above link goes to longest version of the Grateful Dead’s song “Playing in the Band“, one of the greatest live recordings ever.
